How to Play

Play Space Alien Invaders online for free. Space Alien Invaders is a space shooter game inspired by the cult classic arcade hit Alien Invaders. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Click the Play button in the bottom center of the welcome screen to start the game.
The welcome screen also has a full screen mode button in the upper left corner along with a sound control and a question mark how to play button in the upper right corner.
Your web browser automatically saves your high score.
Game Controls
- Desktop
  - You can control this game using the arrow keys to move left or right and the spacebar to shoot.
  - You can also use your mouse to move and the left click button to shoot.
  - In general I found the keyboard controls easier and more precise.
  - Mobile
    - The left and right move buttons are on the lower left of the screen.
    - The shoot button is on the lower right of the screen.
    - This game is easier to play on a keyboard than using on-screen controls.
    - The top of the screen shows your lives & score while offering sound control and help buttons.
    - The game is paused when you click into the help menu or when you click out of the browser.
    - Game Play
      - Scoring
        
        Green enemies are worth 10 points.
        
        Red enemies are worth 20 points.
        
        Blue enemies are worth 30 points.
        
        UFOs at the top of the screen are worth 100 points.
        
        Levels
        
        Levels have 11 columns of enemies with 5 enemies in each column, for a total of 55 enemies per level.
        
        Off the start there are 4 shielded base areas where you can hide from enemy fire, however you can not shoot through them either.
        
        After each of them are shot a cumulative 30 times they disappear for the rest of the game, so it is best to adopt a game strategy where you do not rely on them.
        
        Dying
        
        You start the game with three heart containers, with each one representing a life.
        
        Each time you get shot you lose a life & a heart container goes empty.
        
        You can block some of the straight enemy shots by shooting at them, however you can not block the curving shots.
        
        Each time you beat a level it will refill an empty heart container.
        
        Once all heart containers are empty it is game over.
        
        The free live granted at every level, the sameness of each level, each enemy taking only one hit, and the size of the enemies combine to make this game far easier than the original Alien Invaders arcade game
        
        Strategy
        
        As soon as the level starts try to immediately destroy a column of enemies directly above wherever you are so you have a known safe space you can move to.
        
        Work to take out adjacent columns one column at a time.
        
        After getting rid of around a third to a half of the columns try to shoot the last couple columns on the left side so that the other enemies have further to travel between full paths and moving a row lower.
        
        In general you want to spend most of your time moving the same direction the aliens do and lead them a bit so you stay out in front of their shots and they keep running into your shot.
        
        The only spot this is tricky is when enemies change directions near the edge of the screen. You may want to play that part of the level rather conservatively & back off until the change of direction has been completed.
        
        Target Audience
        
        This game is fun for players of all ages.
        
        There are no adult themes in this game.
